Background
My Father, Larry Dixon was a man of quiet strength, a steady anchor in the lives of those who loved him. His world revolved around family. My mothers death left Him stuck taking on both the roles of both mother and father. He was my best friend. my mentor, and I have always been a daddy's girl. his second passion was his truck repair shop. He worked beside his twin brother for almost four decades. Embracing the grease-stained hands and engine murmurs had etched his life into a rhythm as dependable as the trucks he mended.
I was an only child and my children and I were his pride and joy. , His always told the kids funny jokes or prank them leaving laughter lines deepening when their eyes lit up. Summers were a symphony of backyard barbecues, the scent of grilling meat mingling with the echoes of his children’s laughter. Weeknights were marked by homework help, shared meals, and stories that stretched under the soft glow of the kitchen lamp. When I became a single mom he was there to help no matter what. Larry was the kind of father who could fix a broken toy with as much care as a faulty engine, and the kind of grandfather whose stories and old music were legendary.
His work was more than a job; it was an extension of his character. His shop, a weathered building that had seen countless sunrises and sunsets, held the warmth of his presence. The familiar tools, worn smooth by countless hours of use, were like extensions of his own hands. There was a poetry to the way he diagnosed a problem, a quiet satisfaction in the purr of a repaired engine.
Yet, beneath the mechanic’s exterior was a heart that overflowed with tenderness. He was the shoulder I cried and leaned on when life got tough, the confidant his grandson sons needed and the playful character with my 3 daughters. He was always teaching them something weather it was sports, riding bikes or fishing. His love was a steady, unwavering force, a comforting presence in the lives of those fortunate enough to call him family.
And so, it was with a heavy heart that his world tilted when illness struck. The man who had mended countless engines found himself unable to repair his own body. The once vibrant workshop fell silent, a stark contrast to the bustling life it had once known.
As the family and I gathered around him, our hearts ached with a mix of fear and love. In the quiet moments, we found solace in the memories, in the laughter, and in the enduring bond we all shared with him. Despite our prayers God decided it was time to bring him home and let him rest. Please. help my family and I with the cost of layibg him to rest it was sudden and he wasnt prepared. Now, Its left up to me to figuring everything out. Over the years he blessed so many people. So lets pay it forward and bless him by honoring his wishes to have a proper burial, which I know that everyone who knew him would agree he deserves it the most Contribute
