Laquita's obituary
Laquita Sue Swartz (Flannery), a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and woman of steadfast faith, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and her Lord.
Laquita was born on November 24, 1938, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to June and Glenn Flannery. She was the eldest of four children, alongside her sisters Brenda and Marty, and her brother, Glenn Paul. Raised in a deeply faithful Christian household, Laquita’s father served as a pastor, and the family’s life was centered around church and music. Together with her sisters, she formed “The Flannery Sisters Trio,” sharing her unmistakable singing voice with many.
On July 6, 1956, in Fostoria, Ohio, Laquita married her high school sweetheart, Harry “Buster” Swartz, who affectionately called her “Quita.” Together, they built a loving family and raised three daughters: Joy, Beth (Romeo), and Lynn (Brian). The Swartz family became valued members of the Fostoria community, where Laquita built an accomplished career in banking. She served as the first Vice President of Operations at Tri-County National Bank and played a role in the early development of ATM technology.
Laquita and Harry relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she continued her career at PNC Bank until her retirement in 2000. Laquita was deeply committed to her church community. She and Harry were active and faithful members, contributing through choir, Sunday school teaching, church leadership, and financial stewardship. Their presence was a constant and reassuring one, everyone knew where they would be, come Sunday morning.
Her life was defined by her enduring faith and her commitment to serving Christ. She remained steadfast in her beliefs and lived her life as a reflection of grace, compassion, and purpose.
Laquita was an avid sports enthusiast with an unmatched command of sports trivia. She held a special love for college football and was a devoted fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. She had a lifelong love of music, and a singing voice that was as memorable as it was heartfelt.
Laquita is survived by her three daughters. She was lovingly known as "Mimi" to five grandchildren: Jonathan, Gabe, Lexi, Flannery, and Lucas; and six great-grandchildren. They will remember her gentleness, warmth, and never-ending kindness.
She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
