Lanny's obituary

Lanny Rue Chiu, 48, passed away in San Diego on January 26, 2026.

Lanny was born in New York City, and grew up in Carlisle, MA. Here, he spent countless hours in the Carlisle Public Library, played the trumpet in the Carlisle Public Schools, and became Saber Captain of the fencing team at CCHS. He also attended the Carlisle Congregational Church.

From a young age, Lanny was an avid player of Chess and Basketball, studying both from a fundamental level, and consistently destroyed his older brother at both, also from a young age.

Lanny was also a huge fan of the Boston sports teams. Red Sox Nation represent!

Lanny excelled academically, and went to MIT, where he received his Bachelor’s in Economics. During that time, he also became the President of his fraternity, Phi Kappa Sigma. He later received a Master’s in Financial Engineering from Columbia.

A data and analysis expert, Lanny worked for a number of leading companies, most recently as Vice President of Analytics and Business Intelligence at Manscaped, the premier men’s lifestyle consumer brand.

A kind, generous, patient, caring, hard-working soul, Lanny is survived by his parents, brother, and sons (Bobby (age 17) and Cody (age 14)), and missed by many more family, friends and co-workers.
