Lane's obituary
Lane Abbott Donnelly, age 87, passed away on April 17, 2024. He was born in Philadelphia on June 4th, 1937 - the son of George A. Donnelly Sr and Lillian (Abbott) Donnelly and was raised in Camden followed by Audubon, NJ. He had an older brother, George A. Donnelly II, who passed away in May 2023. Lane graduated from Audubon High School (1955) and attended Murray State University in Kentucky on a baseball scholarship, graduating with degrees in business and education (1960). In the early 1960s, Lane met the love of his life, Betty Jean Kassner, in Ocean City NJ. They were married in 1963. They had a son, Lane Francis Donnelly (1964), and a daughter, Nancy Ann Donnelly (1968).
Lane spent most of his professional career working in business administration in the technical services industry. He started with Allstate Design and Development Company in Trenton NJ and then worked for many years for Belcan Corporation in Cincinnati OH, where he was eventually the Chief Executive Officer. The family moved from Bucks County PA to Cincinnati OH in 1978. Lane retired from Belcan Corporation in 2002 and he and Betty Jean spent most of the next 22 years living in Longboat Key FL most of the year - traveling back to Cincinnati for the summers. In Longboat Key, they enjoyed walking the beach, biking, and spending time with new and old friends.
Lane was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Reds, Bengals, University of Cincinnati Bearcats, Ohio State University Buckeyes, and sports teams on which his children and grandchildren played. Lane was considered to have a great sense of humor and people enjoyed his company. He and Betty enjoyed spending time with their friends and family. One of Lane’s favorite establishments was the Silver Spring House on Kemper Road in Cincinnati. Lane spent most lunches when in Cincinnati, both when he worked and after he retired, at the Silver Spring House with his close friends. He even has a menu entry named after him.
Lane is survived by wife Betty Jean Donnelly, son Lane Francis Donnelly (and wife Carolina Valduga de Alencastro Guimaraes), his daughter Nancy Ann Wenisch (and husband Damien Marie Wenisch), and grandchildren: Piper Nicole Donnelly, Griffin Tutt Donnelly, and Enzo Guimaraes Donnelly. He was loved by his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of a formal funeral arrangement, we are having an informal Celebration of Life for Lane at the Silver Spring House (8322 E Kemper RD, Cincinnati, OH 45249) on Saturday June 15th from 1-3 pm. Please stop by if you can. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Sharon Woods Park (https://greatparksforever.org…
