Lakietha's obituary
Lakietha "Lala" Sanford, profoundly known as Lakietha, was born to Louise Whitfield and Kenyatta Hockenhull on August 31, 1973, and entered eternal rest on September 12, 2024.
Lakeitha was always a lively child and was gifted in anything she applied herself to. Throughout her childhood Lakeitha loved music, making friends and overall enjoying life. Lakeitha would go one to receive all of her formal education in various schools in the San Diego Unified School District. In life Lakeitha had the opportunity to live in a variety of states to include Illinois, Florida and Southern and Northern California.
Lakeitha leaves to mourn her mother, Louise Richardson. Lakeitha was the proud mother to Tatiana Hockenhull, Christopher Sheffield, Treyvon Knight and Toby Knight Jr. And her siblings Brian Gardner (Megan), Evans, GA, and Harold Barnes Jr, (Stephanie) San Diego, CA, and a sister. She also leaves to mourn her loving nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
She was a pillar of strength, a fountain of wisdom, and a beacon of light. Her life was a testament to her beliefs, her love for others, and her devotion to causes close to her heart.
In 2021, Lakietha embarked on a journey with the Women's Daytime Drop-In Center. The positive impact she had on her clients resonates to this day. She had a genuine desire to help those around her and used her position to advocate for a variety of communities. Lakietha was a staunch supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, the African American community, and strived relentlessly for the rights of the homeless.
When not dedicating her time to her work, Lakietha was a vibrant soul who loved old school music, her favorite being 'Fire and Desire' by Rick James and Tina Marie. Laughter was her antidote to life's hurdles—she loved to laugh and enjoy her time with friends. Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, a simple pleasure that brought joy to her heart.
Lakietha's personality was an amalgamation of appealing traits. She was bubbly and caring, yet sturdy with an undeniable confidence, always motivated and determined to make a difference. Her honesty, humility, and friendliness were treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was a life-long advocate of the golden rule. Lakietha always taught others to do upon others what you'd do upon yourself, and to always treat others with kindness and respect, understanding the battles they might be facing silently. This lesson, among others, she imparted, remain an important part of her legacy.
Lakietha's legacy is one adorned with kindness and generosity. Her love for her favorite color, purple, was well known, as it embodied her passion, purpose, and love. Her life was a symphony of vibrant notes and tranquil melodies, each one as meaningful as the next.
May she rest in peace and her soul find the joy and tranquility that she brought into the lives of countless people. Her memories will forever be cherished, and her legacy will continue to inspire those left behind.
