Laila's obituary

Lovely Laila beautiful baby girl, as precious and perfect as can be, born with Tetrology of Fallot like her mama Samantha. We knew there were going to be difficult days ahead, but we were not prepared for the way things turned out.

Colin and Samantha loved Laila deeply and eternally. They were incredible parents.

Laila lived in abundance and love every minute of every day of her short life. Knowing that surgery was on the horizon only made all of us love her more. She was simply special, not just because of her heart issues, but she was gorgeous, she was peaceful, precious, happy and content.

The best gift from God. Her entrance into all of our lives was miraculous and momentous and stretched our hearts with great love.

Laila’s middle name, Barbara came from her great grandmother, Barbara who passed away in 2022. She was a model in her early years, mother to Kristen Vann and grandmother to Colin.

The little pink outfit Laila is wearing in one of the pictures is the same outfit Samantha wore as a baby. I saved some baby clothes and lo and behold, we even have a picture of Sammy in that outfit and she now has photos of both. I’m so glad she did that before surgery.

Tetralogy of Fallot is a serious heart issue which presents three major challenges, a hole between the chambers that must be patched, a missing valve and small arteries. Add to that, excess tissue that needs to come out. All tet babies are different with varying amounts of these issues. Laila’s surgery lasted all day long and then they went back in in the middle of the night to put her back on the heart/lung machine and let her hardworking, overworking right ventricle calm down.

For the next week we cheered her on, hoped her little 11 week old body was healing, prayed for her full and complete recovery. But it was not to be and our hearts are broken forever. Our comfort is that Laila’s in Jesus’ arms now.

Someone just told me that grief is love with no where to go. I wanted you to know a little bit about sweet Laila who was as beautiful as her name.
