Lafayette's obituary

LaFayette Harris, Jr. was born on January 4, 1963 in Chicago, IL.  He was the sixth child of eight born to LaFayette Harris, Sr. and Rosie Lee Harris - Porter.

LaFayette accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First New Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Usher Band.

LaFayette attended Daniel S. Wentworth Elementary School, Edward Tilden High School and graduated from Jones Career Academy. He earned a Business Management Degree from Malcom X College and he attended Le Cordon Bleu.

LaFayette was a talented, exceptional chef who excelled in culinary industry for over forty years. He earned numerous certifications and was the recipient of many awards throughout his career.  He was the proud owner of Golden Dove Catering. He simply loved creating, writing, cooking and presenting delicious dishes. LaFayette had many interest and hobbies which included travel, dance, fashion, decorating and the Theatre. He wholeheartedly loved all of the Arts.

LaFayette was a devoted son and loved Sunday at Mama's house with the family. Spending time with his nieces and nephews was high on his priorities list. He was very easy going, enjoyable to talk with and dependable. If you needed him, he was there to assist you.

LaFayette was preceded in death by his father, LaFayette Harris, Sr. and one brother, John Steven Harris, Sr.

LaFayette is survived by his mother, Rosie Lee Harris - Porter; siblings, James Thomas - Harris, Eva M Cox (Jerry), Sowanda Taylor (David Jr.), Lementous Gibson (Charles), Cheryl McAlpin, and Marcus David (Gelyn); sister-in-law, Linda Harris (John); step brother, Brian Porter; his aunts, Minnie Jean Harris, Minnie Lee Thomas, and Rubye Jackson; uncle, Douglas Thomas (Barbara); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
