Kyla's obituary

With profound sadness, we share the passing of our beloved Kyla Love Hayden on January 25, 2024, at the age of 21. Born on June 10, 2002, in Baltimore, MD, Kyla was a beautiful, intelligent, and fiercely determined young woman whose compassion and drive left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

Kyla grew up in Easton, MD, where her love for animals and sense of justice were evident from an early age. She spent much of her time volunteering at the local Humane Society and later worked at Dunkin' Donuts, always bringing a smile to those around her.

A passionate advocate for social justice, Kyla was in her final semester at Florida Gulf Coast University, where she was a straight-A student majoring in political science. She dreamed of attending law school and pursuing a career in politics, committed to making the world a better place. She had just started a new job and was incredibly proud of living independently in her own apartment.

Her deep love for animals led her to volunteer at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) in Florida, where she helped care for injured wildlife. At home, she was a devoted mother to her beloved rescue bunny, Darnell. She also loved music, Chic-fil-A, sunsets, the beach, and anything pink.

Kyla’s fierce spirit, loving heart, and determination will be forever cherished by her family: her mother, Sara Hayden, and father, Brian Esco; her brothers, Jude Rissolo and Levi Rissolo; her step-sisters, Hailey Rissolo and Isabel Rissolo; her grandparents, Julie and John Hayden; and her aunt, Kelsey Hayden. She will also be deeply missed by countless friends, extended family, and all those whose lives she touched.

Kyla’s family held a private ceremony on March 24, 2024, where her ashes were spread in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Sanibel, FL, a place she loved. In her memory, her siblings planted a tree at Idlewild Park in Easton, MD, and a brick has been placed in her honor at The Healing Garden at The Easton Club, ensuring that her presence and spirit continue to be felt in the places she called home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Humane Society of Talbot County or the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) in Sanibel, FL.

Kyla’s love, strength, and passion for justice will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
