Kyla and I grew up in Folsomville together, but we were never really close. My sister and I visited her and her parents once when we were all still in grade school, and I remember seeing how vivacious she was, relaxed at home. Even though we travelled in different circles, I always admired and respected Kyla's tenaciousness and perseverance.
In response to "What was the most fun you ever had with Kyla?"
Rest in Peace, Kyla.  It was a pleasure to have grown up in Folsomville with you; see you on the other side.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Kyla was a brilliant person that brought joy and humor to everyone.

Kyla was my friend and I miss her.  I loved our side chats during meetings and that we always there for each when we needed advice.  We had small group meetings during the pandemic and often it was only Kyla, Vale, and me just talking about life.  I loved those opportunities to build connection and learn about our triumphs and struggles.  It made work better knowing that I could message Kyla and chat about anything at anytime.  I miss that so much.  She was instrumental in creating positive change within our organization and helping people understand how disability (both visible and invisible) is part of creating and nurturing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.  Her impact to me as a friend and colleague, and to our diabetes research organization is immeasurable.   Rest in grace and love, friend.
Kyla, my friend, I will miss our random texts, our "monthly" well-being coffee chats and knowing that you were there if I needed anything.  You were an amazing person and a great friend!
I will never forget the kindness and support she lended me when I became a new mom. She was an inspiration and daily reminder that I could be both a hardworking scientist and great mom. Kyla, you are so missed. My heart goes out to your family.

My wife was a devout Catholic and even with everything going on she still got to see Carter receive first communion.
It was a heartbreaking news, we will miss a great colleague and a wonderful women! Our prayers are with her family. God bless your little babies Kyla!
Our sympathy, love and prayers for the husband, sons and family. May God hold you close and bless you with peace.
Kyla's kind heart, sharp mind and loving friendship will be sorely missed. She nurtured us all (her snack basket!), and fiercely loved her family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Kyla.
