On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, Kristen Joy Smith, wife, daughter, sister and aunt,
passed away suddenly at the age of 47. She was born on March 13, 1973, in
Chicago Heights, IL. Kristen is survived by her husband and best friend Ken Smith,
by her parents Ken and Pam Kubacki, her brother Kenn (Susan), her brother Korey
(Jennifer), her nephew & niece Ryan and Morgan, and by her extended family and
many friends.
Kristen was a graduate of both Millbrook High School and North Carolina State
University. She loved the mountains. Her happiest times were spent kayaking with
family and friends or going on an adventure. Some of her greatest experiences
included her recent trip to Italy with her mom, watching the launch of space
shuttles, and camping among the redwoods in California. She adored going
birthday shopping with her niece and nephew and brought happiness to those
who knew her with her constant smile.
Kristen, a two-time survivor of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, will be dearly missed.
The family is planning a small service and interment on August 1, 2020. In lieu of
flowers, the family asks you to donate to find a cure for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
