Kindelpitiya's obituary
Kindelpitiya "Jaya" Jayawardene, 74, of Troy, MI, passed away on October 28, 2024.
Jaya was born on May 5 to Hendrick and Asilin Kindelpitiya in a family of 4 brothers and 4 sisters in Horana, Sri Lanka. After schooling he became an English grammar teacher. He met and married his wife Leela and moved to America where his two daughters were born. Jaya would go on to ultimately assist so many other Sri Lankan immigrant families. His generous spirit knew no bounds as he assisted his friends and family in any and every way he could. He was well known for his sense of humor and entertaining stories, his skilled tabla playing, and delicious food. He found great pride in his role as a grandfather, and being around the many children in the community always brought him joy. Jaya was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. He is survived by his wife Leela, daughters Chandi (Nathan) and Menaka and grandchildren James and Amaya, brothers and sisters and extended family around the world. A religious Buddhist service at 5 pm followed by memorial at 6 pm will take place on 11/10/24 at the Great Lakes Buddhist Vihara, 17725 Inkster Rd, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Please note attire is white/light colored clothing
