Kimberley's obituary

Student, Teacher, Linguist, Mother, Wife, Sister, Daughter — Gone All Too Soon
Kimberley Anne SHINOZAKI (nee GAUSS), 59, died of complications due to ovarian cancer at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson on 20 March, 2021, less than six months after the death of her mother.

Born on 26 November, 1961 to the late William C. GAUSS and the late Gloria J. CRITZER, she is survived by her husband Yoichi SHINOZAKI of Ellicott City, her daughter Hannah R. SHINOZAKI of Frederick, sister and partner, Valerie L. THOMPSON and Dennis McDONALD of New Windsor, step-father Wayne J. STRAIGHT of Sykesville, and step-brother Rodney W. STRAIGHT of Clinton.

An accomplished linguist, Kim studied for and attained her Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages and Linguistics; and Master of Arts in Intercultural Communication, at UMBC and the Universite de Paris, France.

Her professional life was dedicated to education, first teaching ESL for HCCC, then serving as Asst. Professor at the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore for 10 years, teaching multiple European and Asian languages in Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) for 7 years, then finally serving as BCPS’ Supervisor of World Languages from 2014-16, and Coordinator of World Languages from 2016 till her death.

Final disposition of Kim’s remains is being handled by Final Journey Crematory in Woodbine. As per her stated wishes, services will be private, immediate family only.

We love and miss you Kim.
