Obituary for Kim Vernile Westenskow

We mourn the loss of our brother, Kim Vernile Westenskow, son of William Vernile Westenskow and Joyce Jex Westenskow. He passed from this world January 15, 2025 in Mesa, AZ. He was born December 16, 1963 in Ogden, Utah and grew up in Kearns and Murray, Utah. He is survived by his long-time girlfriend and major support, Jeri Simpson.  She has been by his side for years and helped Kim in a myriad of ways. He is also survived by his siblings, Kevin Westenskow (Monica) (Murray, Utah), Leni Jeans (Rob) (New Port Richey, FL), Lisa Thompson (C. Eric) (Linden, VA), Heath Westenskow (Sue) (Gilbert, AZ), Hal Westenskow (Kathy) (West Valley City, UT). He is also survived by his children, Kymbrli N. Taylor, Brittany G. Taylor and Kristian C. Taylor.

After years of lots of mistakes and living at his lowest, he finally got involved in Narcotics Anonymous. There, he found his source of strength and resilience to climb out of the hole he was in. At the time of his death, he was 28 years clean. He spent the majority of his time in the program taking meetings into hospitals and institutions, sharing his story with others to give them hope, courage, and the help that he knew they needed and showed them a better way to live. He found his strength in God and tried his hardest to do good to all sorts of people that he came in contact with. He filled his life with his love of family, friends, motorcycles, boating, dogs and his drums. He loved to play with any band that would let him. He would always be found watching any of his Arizona sport teams and BYU. He will be missed by many, but hopefully they will not forget his influence.

 There will be a Celebration of Life event on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025 from 6pm to 8pm at the Family Burial & Cremation Center located at 237 S. Sirrine, Mesa, AZ. 85210.

Kim had no life insurance and so the family is asking that in lieu of flowers, a financial donation be made to Heath Westenskow via Zelle, or to Sue Westenskow via Venmo.  Heath is the executor of Kim's estate and all funds will go to his cremation and Celebration of Life.  Anything over and above that will be given to help Jeri transition.   Kim would have wanted that.  Thank you in advance.
