Kim's obituary
In Loving Memory of Kim E. Shugars
Born: November 16, 1954
Passed: November 30, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kim Eliot Shugars, beloved father, son, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully on November 30, 2024, at the age of 70. After a long and courageous battle with dementia, he is now at rest.
Kim was born in Springfield Illinois to Phyllis Elaine Shugars and Charles Shugars, and he grew up surrounded by a close-knit family who loved him dearly. Throughout his life, he was known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones, his career and his community. In his younger years he was a sharpshooter in the Army and later the reserves to serve a country that he loved. He worked alongside Nevada Child Seekers to help find missing children and be a resource to their families during their time of need. He retired from the postal service after a lifetime of dedication.
He was a man who always put others first, and his generosity of spirit was felt by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his love of antiquity, the long and hilarious stories he would share about his past experiences and the way he made everyone feel special and heard. His ability to find a common ground with anyone and everyone he met was surely something to witness. He really did care about his fellow men and women.
Kim Shugars is survived by his daughter Sarah Shugars, son Eric Shugars, their mom Phyllis P Shugars, step daughter Marlo Zemartis who he loved as his own, two grandchildren Ophelia Shugars and August Shugars. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings Charles E. Shugars, Steven Shugars, Casey Shugars and Rose Shugars, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his sister Diane Moore as well as his mother Phyllis E. Shugars and father Charles R. Shugars.
A memorial service will be held at the Boulder City Veterans Memorial Cemetery on February 18th, 2025 at 12:40 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Dementia Society Of America or your local Animal Foundation as pets were close to his heart.
