Kevin's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Shirley, who left us on September 13, 2025. Born on November 10, 1954, Kevin lived a life full of warmth, wit, and remarkable resilience. He was a beacon of hope, a source of strength, and a testament to the power of perseverance.

Kevin is survived by his beloved family including his Goddaughter, Savannah Thorpe; granddaughters, Amina and Cassandra Thorpe; son-in-law, Akeem Thorpe. His memory will also be cherished by his brother, James Shirley and his wife Barbara; nieces Cathryn Nelson (Shirley) and Elizabeth Shapiro (Shirley); and nephew James P Shirley, sister, Sharon Boynton; brother-in-law, Robert Boynton; niece, Kelli L. Lessard and nephew, Jake Demakis. Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Mabelle and Cleveland T Shirley; brother, Cleveland (Timmy) Shirley Jr; his ex-wife, Catherine Cole; ex-partner, Jill Frisch, and best friend Cheryl Thomas.

A dedicated attendee of Alcoholics Anonymous, Kevin lent his strength to others and was an inspiration to many in their journey towards sobriety. He was a selfless man who was always grateful for each moment he had, and he worked tirelessly to instill this philosophy in others.

Kevin owned and operated his own restaurant in Sanford, Maine, one of his proudest achievements. He was also deeply committed to helping youth and others find sobriety, creating a legacy of service that will not soon be forgotten.

Kevin was a man of many passions. He loved a good Porterhouse Steak, Pepsi, and books by John Bradshaw. He enjoyed listening to The Temptations and "Sweet Child O Mine" by Guns and Roses. His favorite shows ranged from Blue Bloods, Touched by an Angel, Masterchef, and he loved watching the New England Patriots.

Kevin's favorite local spots included Fortunes Rocks Beach in ME, Bailey's Bubble in Wolfeboro NH, Lake Winnipesaukee in NH, and Paras Pizza in Sanford ME. He was a passionate supporter of AA, Al-Anon, and Adult Children of Alcoholics.

In the words of those who knew him best, Kevin was warm, inviting, welcoming, shy, witty, and funny. He loved the color blue and always shared the wisdom to be selfless and grateful. Above all, Kevin will be remembered for the warmth of his spirit, the depth of his resilience, and his unwavering commitment to helping others.

His legacy is one of service, compassion, and determination. He touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
