Kevin's obituary
Obituary for Kevin S. Clarke
Kevin Scott Clarke, 61, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025.
A proud Brooklynite by birth and a man of deep integrity, Kevin lived a life dedicated to service, family, and community.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Kevin graduated from Edward R. Murrow High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he served his country honorably. Following his military service, Kevin embarked on a distinguished career with the New York Corrections Department and later the New York City Police Department. Rising through the ranks to become a lieutenant, he was respected by colleagues and admired for his leadership, fairness, and unwavering commitment to protecting the people of New York City.
After retiring from the NYPD, Kevin made his home in Atlanta, where he enjoyed the warmth of Southern life while staying closely connected to his family and friends. He was known for his calm demeanor, sharp wit, and the quiet wisdom he shared with those who sought his counsel. Kevin had a great sense of humor and was deeply engaged in politics and current events. He loved spirited conversation and was always ready to discuss the issues of the day.
Kevin was also a devoted caregiver—after retirement, he lovingly looked after his older brother Brent, supporting him through significant health challenges and ensuring Brent's final years were filled with joy, dignity, and companionship until his passing in March 2025.
Kevin had a lifelong passion for sports and nostalgia. He was an avid fan of Major League Baseball and proudly collected team shirts. He also followed basketball and football with great enthusiasm. A lover of classic media, Kevin enjoyed shows like The Wire and Lost, and he kept a crate full of old cartoons and movies, which he treasured.
Kevin is survived by his loving brothers Terrence Clarke, Wayne Clarke, and Brian Clarke, and a host of extended family, friends, and former colleagues who will miss his steady presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elroy V. Clarke and Janie Mae Clarke, his sister Valrie Janine Clarke, and his brother Brent Clarke and Elroy Clarke Jr.
A private cremation will be held, with a memorial service planned for September 7, 2025, to honor Kevin’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kevin’s memory to a veteran’s organization of your choice.
Kevin’s life was one of quiet heroism—devoted to service, grounded in family, and rich with the bonds of friendship. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
