Kevin “Heavy Set Chet” Pollard passed at the age of 65 after a brief battle with cancer. He was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and his favorite title, Grandpa.

Kevin was born and raised in Ontonagon, Michigan by his parents, William & Marjorie Pollard. He grew up causing chaos with his six siblings and many cousins, and he had lightly exaggerated stories to prove it. In his adult life, he was the best welder in the UP and worked at Lakeshore Systems for over 25 years. He would never fail to point out a bubblegum weld while at a stadium watching his favorite teams, or at a playground with his favorite kids.

Kevin was passionate about sports, both watching and playing. When he wasn’t spending time watching his Packers, Red Wings, or Michigan Football, he had a way of turning anything into a friendly competition, especially playing ping-pong and bags.

Kevin thoroughly enjoyed life and found humor in every situation. He was always good for a laugh, a funny comment, or a loud “I’m sure!” when necessary. He loved to slow down and spend time with those he loved, whether that be ATV’ing with friends and family, going on trips with his kids, sitting around a campfire with a beer, helping out with a home improvement project, golfing, or getting together with family for the holidays.

Kevin left his family and friends with an abundance of treasured memories and legends that they can repeat, but never quite recite as perfectly as he did.

Kevin is survived by his parents, William & Marjorie, brothers, Michael (Nancy), Terry (Jeanne), Randy (Donna), Brett, and sisters, Christy (Bob) Kirkley and Tara (Mike) York, his children, Kory (Ceirra) and Katelyn (Chris) Witkowiak, his grandchildren, Veyah & Theodore, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In the words of this wise man, just remember the good times.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on October 26th. Visitation will be held at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Ontonagon starting at 10:00 AM, with a memorial service starting at 11:00 AM. The family welcomes you to join in his celebration of life at 1:00 PM at the Ontonagon VFW Post 5600, and encourages you to wear his favorite sports teams attire.
