Kevin's obituary
Kevin Landis O’Brien, 60, passed away at 11:52 AM on October 9th, 2022, with his family by his side.
Kevin was a smoked meat eating, beer drinking, belly laughing, Washington Redskins loving man.
He was the hardest working man, you might ever meet. He loved mechanics and sharing recipes. He especially loved his three children, Kyle, Craig and Emily, and his three grandsons, James, Hank and Forrest.
Originally being born in Cambridge, Maryland, he was raised in Hampton, Virginia. He served in the Marine Corps, and went on to work as a Supervising Mechanic at Busch Gardens and King’s Dominion, later a Contractor at Quantico, VA where he worked for many years, and made life-long friends. Attached below are some words regarding his contribution to the Marine Corps, from his close friends and former co-workers.:
Kevin began his professional career by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Later in his career from 2007 through 2021, he continued to work with the USMC in the Raids and Reconnaissance community as a government contractor. His tireless commitment to his job and important contribution to the Corps cannot be overstated and did not end when his enlistment did. As a contractor, Kevin's skills and enthusiasm helped advance the mission of the Raids and Reconnaissance community. He conducted research, development, test and evaluation of amphibious reconnaissance equipment to help advance reconnaissance capabilities to ensure Marines were safe and effective on the water. This is a lasting legacy. Once a Marine always a Marine. Fair winds and following seas. Semper Fidelis
He would drink a beer and talk mechanics with just about anyone. He would help little old ladies cross the street, and share a bite of any good snack he had. He loved to fish, he was an amazing artist, and loved taking notes.
Kevin is survived in death by his sons Kyle Parkinson and Craig O’Brien, his daughter Emily James, his grandsons James McKenna, Henry Parkinson, and Forrest Parkinson, and his siblings Jacquline O’Brien, Kirk O’Brien, and Kenneth O’Brien.
Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, Bobbie and Thomas, and his favorite dog, his Seelie Girl.
Kevin’s children will be planning a Celebration of Life in the future, and will be reaching out to invite those who would like to attend. If you would like to send flowers, please contact Emily James at eeemmy@aol.com
