Kevin Joseph Mahoney was a beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2024, at age 58 in Orange County, CA.

He was born to William and Audrey Mahoney on October 22, 1965, in Lynwood, CA, the youngest brother to siblings Brian and Geralynn. Kevin grew up appreciating the outdoors hiking, camping, and fishing with his family. He was a gifted tennis athlete on the local youth team, winning many tournaments. He attended St. Matthias Parish School in Huntington Park, CA and went on to graduate from Don Bosco Technical Institute High School in Rosemead, CA.

After a first date where Kevin met Anne, they realized they had a common interest in graphic arts and printing, and both earned their B.S. in Graphic Communications from Cal Poly State University, in San Luis Obispo, CA. After college, Kevin and Anne married and they raised their two daughters together. The family settled in Rancho Santa Margarita and quickly became active in the community.

Kevin was a doting dad to his two daughters Kathryn and Kristen, who were the center of his world. His love for them had no end and his pride in them was incomparable. Watching them both graduate college and also earn graduate degrees, gave him much to be proud of. He enjoyed traveling and recently spent time in Europe on a trip with both daughters making some treasured memories.

It was through his daughters that Kevin learned more about the sports of soccer and lacrosse, becoming an official for both sports. His love of officiating women’s lacrosse continued even after his daughters graduated from high school. He moved on to officiate games and tournaments across the country up to the NCAA Division 1 level, making many new friends of the fellow officials he met along the way.

Later in life Kevin became increasingly interested and quite efficient in cooking many recipes he found online. Many family and friends will recall some of the amazing food he has made over the years. One tradition was started when Kevin would prepare an annual St. Patrick’s Day feast, with corned beef, cabbage and all the traditional items, and he was so proud to do all the cooking.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father William H. Mahoney who entered eternal rest on February 22, 2004.

Kevin is survived by his adult children, Kathryn (Ryan) van Sluis, Kristen (Joshua) Sandberg, their mother, Anne Mahoney, wife to Kevin for 31 years, his mother Audrey Mahoney, his brother Brian (Laura) Mahoney, his sister Geralynn (Greg) Finnegan and his 9 nieces and nephews, as well as many other dear family and friends who will miss him greatly.

A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on September 27, 2024, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 5101 Alton Parkway, Irvine, CA.
