Kevin's obituary
Kevin Lee Brown, 61, of Manistique, Mich., passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Kevin was also known as Dad, KB, Papa, Mr. Brown, Trouble, and Kev-Kev. Kevin left this world as a dedicated father, loving papa, devoted teacher, and steadfast friend. He touched the lives of everyone he met, and his memory will carry on in our hearts. Kevin was born Jan. 28, 1963, in Tecumseh, Mich., to Marcus and Beth (Gish) Brown.
Kevin was a graduate of Tecumseh High School. While he was born and raised in Lenawee County, he grew up visiting the Upper Peninsula with his parents where his father built a cabin on Lake Michigan. Lenawee County and Manistique were both home for Kevin. Early in Kevin’s life he turned his love for construction trades and carpentry into a career and was the proud owner of Raisin Valley Builders for over a decade. Kevin later turned his passion for building trades into a passion for teaching the next generation of tradesmen and women.
While Kevin loved construction, he loved his community even more. He blended this love by teaching and partnering with Habitat for Humanity. In Lenawee County, he taught for the ISD and was the president of Habitat for many years. Kevin was later the president of Habitat for Humanity HiawathaLand, and he proudly taught construction trades for the Delta-Schoolcraft ISD at Manistique High School. In 2017, Kevin was named the Habitat for Humanity Hiawathaland Volunteer of the Year. He loved his job not because he was Volunteer of the Year or Habitat president, but because he could teach his students lessons to carry with them for the rest of their lives.Kev
As great as Kevin was to his communities and students, he was an even better dad! His daughters will always remember sharing his special space at his home on Lake Michigan, the advice around the bonfires, and the way he could always make us laugh. He was our rock and always showed up when we needed him. He was a proud man who loved side-by-side rides, visiting Harold, and his cat Mosey. But most of all, he loved his family which we knew from his multiple daily phone calls, texts, and keeping us company on road trips. He always reminded us to “go big, or go home,” and “if you’re going to be bad, be good at it.”
Though he left us too soon, Kevin, Dad, Mr. Brown, Kev-Kev, and Papa left us filled with his love and memories we’ll cherish forever.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Beth Brown. He is survived by his two daughters, Kristy (Jim) Stretch and Jenny (Nate) Weirich; stepdaughter, Sarah Turner; partner, Amy Costello; grandson, Koda; and grand-twins, Everly and Tinley; cousins, Richard (Lola) Gish, Rodney (Marilyn) Gish, Janice (Leon) Watkins, and Gary (Carol) Gish.
The family would like to invite you to a Celebration of Life Gathering at ZZ’s Sports Bar and Grill on Saturday, May 4th from 2-5p.m! We look forward to seeing you there.
