Kevin's obituary

Our beloved Kevin DeVaughn Johnson (aka 'KJ') was born through Milton and Felicia Johnson on July 1, 1992.

Since early childhood, the gift of positive energy flowed through Kevin and people were instantly drawn to him. He loved and lived his life with purpose and joy. His bright smile, big heart, and pure soul were inspirational and contagious. Kevin acknowledged and received Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized in Sacramento, California. His favorite scripture was 2Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight). As if this was his marching order, Kevin approached life with courage and fearlessness.

He graduated from Franklin High School in 2010 and then served his country by enlisting as a US Marine. In January 2011, Kevin graduated as the Honorman for 2110 ECHO CO 2nd BN. He would then be chosen for the Marine's MSG program and trained with the FBI and DEA in Quantico, Virgina. Kevin then served honorably at various American embassies (Japan, Chile, Kazakhstan, and Dubai). Sgt Kevin Johnson was honorably discharged in June 2016.

While deployed in Kazakhstan he met and married the love of his life Alina Johnson. And from their union, in December 2018, we received our wonderful blessing Legend Johnson.

May 2022, Kevin received his BA degree from Academy of the Arts University in San Francisco, CA. While at the Arts University, Kevin excelled above and beyond and won the award for Best Actor among his peers. He enjoyed creating many skits that can be seen on his social media. He also had entrepreneurial dreams and pursued each prospective idea. Kevin’s security and firearms expertise also opened the door to a career in executive security for various west coast clients.

Kevin was a loving husband, father, godfather, son, brother, cousin, friend, colleague, and mentor. After a hard-fought battle against a rare form of cancer, he passed away at the age of 31 on Wednesday, October 13, 2023. He will forever be in the hearts and cherished by Alina Johnson (wife), Legend Johnson (son), Milton & Felicia Johnson (parents), Kiarra Johnson (sister), Nashay Spivey (sister), Serik & Margarita (father/mother in-law), Yasin (brother-in-law), Arina (sister-in-law), and a host of uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.

He had a true circle of friends to whom he referred to as his brothers. Some from childhood, others from his time serving as a Marine, and those who entered his life as an adult. He cherished and nurtured all the special bonds that were developed. There will be tough days ahead and we pray you all reflect on the joyous times and know he had genuine love for each one of you.

Kevin truly treasured life and its moments! His work ethic was phenomenal and enjoyed his hobbies with the same intensity. He loved riding his motorcycle and driving fast cars. You could feel his beautiful spirit of joy when his presence entered a room. He would always say through any of his successes as well as failures…. “I know God has a plan for me” or “I know God will work this out”. He was a living testimony of 2Corinthians 5:7. His passing is a reminder to live each day as if it were your last and to always cherish loved ones.
