Kevin's obituary

Kevin Ronald Decooman

July 30th, 1958 - October 29th, 2024

It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Kevin Decooman at age 66 on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, surrounded by his family in Peterborough, Ontario. Devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend. Kevin had a profound love for all those precious to him, but he was our greatest treasure of all.

Kevin was born and spent his early years in Alliston, Ontario. He was then raised in the Norwich and Delhi area of Ontario. He grew up on a farm with his family and later moved to Toronto and then the Durham region. A strong and brave man with a love of the outdoors and being a natural with people, he began his career as an arborist. Kevin became involved with health and safety and eventually moved to work at the City of Toronto where he finished his career as manager of Forestry. Retiring in 2020, Kevin settled in Lindsay, Ontario with his wife Doreen Macpherson. Kevin was enormously selfless, brilliant, and caring. Kevin’s family and friends were the most important thing to him. To know him was to love him.

Kevin is lovingly remembered by his wife of 18 years (together for 23 years), Doreen Macpherson; his mother, Shirley Decooman (Geoff Mitchell); his children: Crystal Armstrong (Kyle), Samantha Spataro (Christopher), Carissa MacDermid (Andrew), Grant Decooman, Danielle Macpherson (Jesse Leonard), and Connor Macpherson; and his seven grandchildren: Ava, Colton, Harvey, Riley, Cameron, Patrick, and Abigail. He is also survived by his siblings: Mark Decooman (Konni Steel Decooman) and Kelly Decooman, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Kevin was predeceased by his father, John Decooman.

In honour of Kevin Decooman’s beautiful life and memory, a celebration of life will be held on November 8th, 2024 from 1:00PM-3:00PM at the Lake House, 600 Liverpool Rd, Pickering, ON.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Kevin’s name to the Canadian Liver foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or to the Peterborough Regional Hospital.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff in the ICU at Peterborough Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.
