Kent's obituary

Kent Howard Hazen was born May 24, 1945 in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota to Howard Stockley Hazen and Charlotte Adelle Rees Hazen. He grew up in Roseville, Minnesota, and graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School in 1963. Kent graduated from the University of Minnesota Phi Beta Kappa in 1967. In 1969 Kent earned a Master’s degree from Penn State in Russian and Slavic languages.

In 1987 Kent and his friend, Jim “Hymie” Peterson, opened a record store on Lake Street in Minneapolis called "Hymie and Hazen Records” which still exists today as "Hymie's Vintage Records". Kent was an avid collector of records and an expert on the jazz scene in the Twin Cities.

For many years Kent was an antique dealer who had a booth at many antique shows. He specialized in old paper products and jazz records.

Kent is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Jeffrey Rees Hazen. He is survived by his first cousin Martha Robinson, nephew Brett Hazen and family, niece Angela Hill and family, and two former sisters-in-law, Candy Hazen and Judith Hazen.
