A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 2pm - 4pm, at Roger & Gwen Maggard’s home, 20100 Box Cove, Saucier, MS.
Kenneth Eugene Maggard Sr. passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy, TX. Kenny, as his friends knew him, was born July 19, 1947, in Meridian, MS and spent his formative years in Gulfport, MS. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy from 1966-1970, which led to many lifelong friendships. He spoke so highly of the men he served with and shared many stories of his time in San Diego and Guam. After the Navy, Kenny spent the next 41 years working in the mooring business. His career led him across the globe, including China, Russia, Egypt, Africa, Venezuela, and the Azores. Kenny never met a stranger and spread his love of cooking and barbecuing every chance he got. As a born redneck, converted coonass, and resident of Texas for the past 18 years, Kenny made many memories with his family and friends in deer stands, fishing boats, cook offs, LSU tailgates, golf courses, and family gatherings. Kenny grew up playing and camping on the Wolf River in Mississippi and spent many fun days and nights camping on the river with family and friends throughout his life. He especially loved being a part of MUMC Cookers, which is a Texas style BBQ cooking outreach ministry of Montgomery United Methodist Church that he helped start. In his retirement, this combined his passions of cooking and fellowship with serving people. Family was always most important to Kenny and he drove many miles to spend time with his siblings in Mississippi and children and grandchildren in Louisiana.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Opal Maggard; many aunts and uncles, including his beloved Uncle Charles and Aunt Donna. He is survived by his children, Eddie Faucheux (Micky) of Broussard, LA, Angel Maggard Vidrine (Chris) of Gonzales, LA, and Kenny Maggard Jr. (Stacy) of Lafayette, LA; sisters Jean Leggett and Lynn Sekul; brother and best friend Roger Maggard (Gwen); eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild with another on the way.
