Kenneth's obituary
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Woodford on June 25, 2025.
Born on August 2, 1955, Ken lived a life benchmarked by community involvement and social engagement.
Kenneth was a true jack of all trades, spending his childhood riding horses on a family farm, his early working years in hospitality at Wickaninnish Inn, before moving to Vancouver where he excelled in sales. It was here he met his beloved wife Ellen, whom he married in 1979. Together they celebrated the birth of their son Jacob, followed later by daughter, Molly.
Ken would soon follow his step-father Mike into the family barber shop business, taking over Mike's Barbershop, a post WWII staple in Parksville, in 1998.
Ken faced profound loss with Ellen’s untimely passing in 2004. He was also predeceased by his mother Daphne Malone and step-father Mike, father Kenneth Woodford, and sister Colleen Dewar.
Ken was a proud Freemason, volunteering often and supporting their various philanthropic efforts. Ken transitioned his childhood love of horseback riding into his years-long involvement with Coombs-Hilliers Recreation & Community Organization, taking on various leadership roles for rodeo and bluegrass events. He spent many years as a volunteer firefighter for the Deep Bay Fire Department. Ken was an appreciator of blues music, an interest he partook in often, whether dancing, attending live music events or simply enjoying in the background as he cooked - one of his favourite recreational activities.
Apart from any accomplishments, it was his heart that truly defined him. Kenneth leaves a legacy of kindness and acceptance and a deep commitment to community living. Ken leaves behind son Jacob (Tiff), daughter Molly (Brian), granddaughter Isabelle, grandson Henry, sisters Lynn (Bob) and Maureen (Sheldon), brother-in-law Ted, sister-in-law Carol (Dave), along with numerous nieces and nephews. His loving spirit, warm laughter, and generosity will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
