Ken's obituary

Kenneth Lundstrom, 96 of Portland, Oregon, passed away on Novermber 15, 2020, after a full and enjoyable life.


Ken, was born on December 24, 1923 to Alfred Lundstrom and Gertrude Mooney in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from Franklin High School in 1941, he joined the Army. He spent 1 year studying at Vanderbilt University in Nashville before being shipped overseas to the European Theater during World War II and fought in the Rhineland region of Central Europe until the war ended. He went on to study Business Administration at the University of Portland.


After graduation he landed his first job as an accountant for Mayflower Farms/Darigold where he eventually became a Computer System Analyst. He worked there for 34 years. He married his longtime family friend, Patricia Ekstrom in 1947, going on to have 2 children, Monica and Steven.


Ken was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Monica and Steven, spending many years working as a troop leader with the Boys Scouts of America. This enabled him to spend many hours hiking with his troop and ultimately climbing Eagle Cap in Eastern Oregon.


Ken was also a passionate about fishing in Central Oregon where he had a cabin in LaPine Oregon and then a home in Sunriver, which he enjoyed as much as possible. He was also a major sports fan, digesting the sports page in the Oregonian cover to cover daily. His favorite teams were Portland Trailblazers, all teams from Oregon State University, University of Oregon and University of Portland. In his retirement he traveled all over the United States with his wife Pat. They even made a wonderful overseas trip to England and created some lasting memories.


Anyone who knew Ken knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred Lundstrom, his mother, Gertrude Lundstrom , his brother, Richard Lundstrom, his wife, of 53 years. Patricia Lundstrom and his son, Steven Lundstrom. He is survived by his daughter, Monica LaClair, and daughter in law, Rosemary Lundstrom.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Dr., Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202 and Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, FDR Station, PO Box 220, New York, NY 10150. There will be a Military Honors Service at Willamette Memorial Cemetery on June 28, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
