Kenneth's obituary

Kenneth "Ken" Robert LaVoie, 56 years of age, of Newport, NC, passed away on Wednesday December 21st, 2022. Ken passed away from a heart attack at Carolina East Medical Center.

Ken was born on September 28, 1966, in Manchester, New Hampshire to Robert and Claire LaVoie. Ken started his career in the United States military. He served four years in the Marine Corps and two years in the reserves. Ken was a dedicated fireman at Cherry Point Fire and Emergency Services in Havelock, NC. He also volunteered at the Havelock Fire Department. He served as Fire chief until his retirement. After retirement, Ken came to work for Piedmont Airlines at Coastal Carolina Regional Airport. He served as a customer service agent, for six years, until his passing. Ken's favorite work saying was that "teamwork makes the dream work!"

Ken loved helping people. It was simply in his nature to help anyone that he could. He loved to do projects and help others build things. The project he was most proud of was his house that he built. If there was any project going on, you better believe Ken was there to help out and give advice.

He had a heart of gold and was well loved by anyone that he met. Ken loved to make jokes and kept everyone entertained with stories and pranks. His laughter was contagious and it never allowed anyone to remain in a bad mood.

Aside from being a handyman and a comedian, Ken had many interests. He enjoyed baseball and his favorite team was the Boston Red Sox. He also loved watching the New England Patriots play football. Other than sports Ken loved to travel. He particularly loved to go on cruises. And at one point he worked as a travel agent for Cruise One. Every year Ken would take a group of seniors for a trip. When asked about travelling, Ken would always recommend a cruise "because of their food." Ken loved to eat and he was an amazing cook, often feeding his coworkers just because he wanted to share a meal. Ken loved to chat over a good cup of coffee everyday. He would usually come into work early just to drink coffee and talk before his actual shift started. Ken loved to crack jokes and talk about his family in Florida.  He was hilarious and always kept us laughing. His coworkers loved and appreciated him. We were his family away from home, his "Fire Family" and "Airport Family."

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Marshell, and their dog Riley; His father Robert Lorenzo LaVoie of Manchester, NH; His sisters Christine Perreault (Bruce) of Lakewood Ranch, FL and Janet Heslin (Quinn) of Lakewood Ranch, FL; His nieces April O'Keefe (Rick) of Merrimack, NH and Paige Gray (Ricky) of Haslet, TX; and his father-in-law Marshall Awalt of Newport, NC. Ken had no children.

Ken also leaves behind his work family. He is survived by his work spouse, of six years, Crystal Creech; His shift supervisor Carol Vieregge aka "that Carol lady;" and numerous coworkers from his work families that loved him dearly.

Ken was preceded in death by his mother,  Claire LaVoie. He was also preceded in death by his airline coworker, Scott Hefner.
