Hi Janet, I'm not sure if you remember me or not. We attended our one-room-schoolhouse together at Carroll's Corners in Flat Rock. My maiden name was Charles. I married Richard Sarasin from Gladstone. He was born in 1942 like your husband. We'll have been married for 59 years in November. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your great loss.
You may be gone, but you are not forgotten. You are missed. Thank you for your service.
John, I know you are ok and not suffering any more. The last time I saw you was at a family funeral. It’s sad that it was the only way we saw each other. I will miss seeing you. Janet I am at a loss for words to express my feelings for your loss, but I think I know how you feel as I lost my brother Jerome today and it’s hell. You are in my prayers and so is Johnny. He was my brother too, just like all the Kalishek family. God love you all. Joe and Cheryl Bernier

The whole Kalishek family remains in my heart and prayers. I will miss “Pop” showing me pictures on his computer, sharing our mutual love for “oldies” music, his infectious laugh, and big smile. (And his homemade pickles!) I am one of many who were blessed to have known him. Sending my love to you all. ~Rach’
I've had the pleasure of meeting and being an in-law with "Pop" and "Gran" through my wife, Amy. There are so many fond memories that come to mind.. some are just everyday stuff, some are projects that we did together, some I cannot share (laugh..j/k), and some are trips that we've taken together.
He was quite the story teller and always had one up his sleeve whether it was about him growing up in the Kalishek clan, his own family, his Navy days or his work stories. The cool thing about his stories is that you always learned something about the world, something technical that I never knew (I'm a city boy) or something about him. It made the conversations even better when we crack a Busch beer or two and sit on the back porch. Those times are priceless and I will cherish them dearly, very fortunate to spend that much time with him.
He also taught me many things, especially about tools or fixing things around the house. Frankly, I mostly assisted as he meticulously and thoroughly fixed something and remnants of that are everywhere around the house (both in Memphis & Atlanta). He also tried to teach me about electric engines, AC/DC and how electrical power works in a household. I mostly nodded as I sipped my beer, hoping he wouldn't ask me to recite what he just told me. His mental capacity was quite phenomenal and had a memory of an elephant too, there weren't too many things that could get by him.
In looking back, what I personally appreciated about him is that he stood for what he believed in, used humor as a way to transcend and bind relationships, was generous to the core and was stubborn as an oak (chuckles). At the end, I know that he knows without a doubt that we will miss him and we will take care of Janet.

DearJohnny,

You handled your illness with great dignity & certainly gave it your all, when it came time to do battle with it! I admire you for that.
Rest easy now & fly high! I will miss our emails to each other, especially when nowadays it seems to be the last way that most people communicate! It was still good enough for us! :)

To Janet, J.P. Shelly, Amy & Renee. We send you our love & I pray for peace & comfort for all of you.

Hugs~
Cheryl & Dennis

Janet, J.P., Shelly, Amy, Renee, And family. Thinking of you all. So sorry for your (our) loss. We have so many memories from over the years from our childhood years, to our Alaska trip, to life in general. We will miss him forever, Love you "Johnny"
We have made SO many wonderful memories with Ken and Janet and family over the years! Besides our husbands working together on the base, we have such fun memories of camping with them in Mountain View, AR; Gulf Shores, AL; Melbourne,FL; Kentucky Lake; New Orleans; and in Gladstone and Rock, MI,! And in recent years when they have been settled here in Memphis and we’ve been able to visit often. It was a treasure to also meet and spend time with his family members, both here and in Michigan and in Florida. Ken was the kindest soul you could ever meet—he would always help you if he possibly could, and he usually could! His was a life well lived but It’s still so hard to realize that Ken is gone from us. May he Rest In Peace.
