Kenneth's obituary

Kenneth O’Neal Jumper (84) passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born June 22, 1939 in Prosperity, South Carolina to his parents Keister O’Neal and Mattie Lee Jumper (predeceased). He is predeceased also by his only brother, Charles Frederick Jumper, PhD.

Upon graduation from Hollywood High School in 1957 he married his High School sweetheart, Norma Rae Jumper (Banks) from Saluda, SC. They were married on October 11, 1959. Ken Jumper went to work as a stock boy for McCrory’s (5-10-25 store) after graduation and worked his way up through the Management trainee program. He was promoted to Store Manager in Punxsutawney, PA. and managed stores in Pennsylvania and Atlantic City, New Jersey. In 1970, he was promoted to District Manager in Memphis, TN. where he lived for 50 years and retired with McCrory’s after 37 years. He was passionate about college football and was an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years Norma Rae Jumper (Banks) and his son Kenneth Stephan Jumper (Charlotte) of Winston-Salem, NC, and daughter, Carla Denise Long (David) of Birmingham, AL. He is survived by 2 grandchildren Karoline O’Neal Jumper and Bryant Thomas Long. He was a member of Germantown Methodist Church until moving to Birmingham, AL in February 2020. He was a resident of Danberry at Inverness retirement community and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham. There will be a memorial service at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Germantown UMC or Asbury UMC.
