Background
Ken volunteered for almost 10 years at Joe's Club, the Brevard Alzheimer's Foundation's Adult Day Care, where he played guitar and sang for the clients, entertaining folks at every level of ability. It was gratifying for him to see the clients joining in singing songs from every era, some clapping along, some only tapping a toe. Always ending with a patriotic song, like God Bless America, every single client would stand, or sit up straighter, or remove a cap, regardless of their seeming awareness level.
Donations to JOE'S CLUB go through the BREVARD ALZHEIMER'S FOUNDATION and the day care and its clients will directly benefit from donations.
Secondly, he volunteered for several years, walking dogs and generally caring for shelter animals at
BREVARD COUNTY SHERRIFF'S OFFICE ANIMAL SERVICES. He used his "dog whisperer" techniques to win over the most frightened dogs and became a "pit bull apologist" on Facebook, posting about what wonderful dogs they are. Animal shelters are famously always in need of donations for basic care of the animals.
Donations will go to each of these worthy organizations, through a dedicated account (less processing fees). If you prefer your donation go to one organization over the other, please just add note in the “share a memory/condolences” area of the website and I’ll make that preference happen. Funds may be used to create a more permanent memorial to honor Ken's work, in the way of a bench or plaque, all information regarding that decision, to be made at a later date will be posted here.
