Kenneth's obituary
Kenneth Walter Boyd, Jr. was born on February 5, 1945 to Kenneth W. Boyd, Sr. and Anna Virginia Boyd. He was the beloved baby brother to his sister, Charlene Boyd Moore. Ken passed on to his heavenly home on May 2, 2024, at the age of 79. A life-long resident of Fort Worth, Texas, Ken graduated from Haltom High School in 1963 and went on to receive a business degree from UTA.
Kenneth married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Deadra Marie Lawler, in 1966. God blessed them with three daughters: Kristen, Jennifer, and Melissa.
Kenneth was a life-long member of Rosen Heights/Rockwood/Fossil Creek Church until he began attending North Pointe Baptist in 2022 with his daughter. Ken loves Jesus with all his heart. He demonstrated to his family and to all who knew him what the love of Christ is like: tender, compassionate, and full of grace. It gave him great joy to know that his children and grandchildren loved Jesus too.
Ken loved to sing and worship Jesus with hymns and praise songs. He loved Elvis’ gospel music. He often would sing with his hands raised and tears streaming down his cheeks because of gratitude for what Jesus had done for him. ( “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8)
Kenneth was a gifted story teller and could always make others laugh, but his favorite thing to tell was his testimony. He loved to talk about Jesus and often told others, “We serve a big and mighty God.”
Kenneth was preceded in death by Kenneth Boyd, Sr., Virginia Boyd, Charlene Boyd Moore, his first cousin H.G. Dollar, and Deadra Lawler Boyd, and many aunts and uncles.
Ken is survived by his daughter Kristen Boyd Kopp and son-in-law, William Kopp; his daughter Jennifer Boyd Piedra and son-in-law, Nelson Piedra, and daughter Melissa Boyd Mota and son-in-law, Gilbert Mota. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter: Brittany, Curtis, and Ginger Preas; Lillian, Anabelle, and Julianna Piedra; Madeleine and Aubrey Mota; and Kailah Hopkins. He is also survived by his nephew, Greg Reynolds, and nieces Rhonda Sue LaGrone and Gina Henry and many great nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at North Pointe Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas. 147 E. Hurst Blvd. 76053
