Kenneth's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and great friend Ken Berg. Ken passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2024, surrounded by his family at the age of 80 in Cape Coral, FL where he resided. He was a man of immense humor and wisdom, witty with a dry sense of humor, who turned strangers into long life friends with great ease. He was also compassionate yet strict, with the best leadership skills you could ever come across.

Ken was born Jan 4th, 1944, to Bud and Lois Berg in Billings, MT. He grew up with two sisters Joy and Patty and had a very tight nit family. As a child, he loved helping on friend(s) farms, hunting, fishing, snow skiing and cars. After being in the 1st graduating class at Billings West High, he met and married Jeanette Bernhardt on Nov 24th, 1963. He called her “His Bride” for 60 years and was so very proud of Jeanette. Ken was in the Army for 3 years stationed in Frankfurt Germany assigning troops for the 3rd Armored Division. After an honorable discharge, he moved his family to Denver, got a degree in marketing and worked as a manufacturer sales rep for most of his career. Lisa was born in Frankfurt, and Eric in Denver making their family unit complete. Ken and his family left Denver for a short time and lived in Salt Lake City UT before coming back to Denver, calling it home forever. Camping, boating, fishing and waterskiing, hunting, helping on more friend(s) farms, the shooting range, along with all our travel adventures became the norm for him and his family for the rest of his life. He was a master chef who owned every cooking utensil you could imagine, and an amazing country dancer who loved his country music. As a family, it was a normal evening to play games (lots of darts on a corked wall when his kids were young), reminisce, and share all our stories. Ken eventually gained a son-in-law and two grandsons he absolutely adored, from which they learned and embraced his family ways and values. He and Jeanette have a large presence in their children and grandchildren’s lives and family was always a number #1 priority. When Ken retired, he still freelanced working on computers, drove motorhomes to Alaska for a family friend who was in the business of buying and selling them, and continued to travel where he spent part of his time in Havasu CA, Denver, CO, Fort Smith, MT, Trenton, NE, and Cape Coral, FL with Jeanette.  They eventually settled down permanently in Cape Coral. Ken and Jeanette had many favorite places they loved, so he made sure that’s where they spent their time.

Ken’s passion for living life to the fullest created so many memories we’ll cherish forever. Ken was a straight up kind of guy and wore his emotions on his sleeve…. good and bad. He was an honorable person who got great satisfaction with helping anyone who crossed his path succeed, teasing/joking with people, and very proud of his party planning skills whether it was truly an event, or just a small gathering for fun. He loved people, was the life of every party/gathering, and couldn’t get enough of NASCAR. The family he built was so important to him, and he welcomed anyone to our circle who wanted to join the ride. His son-in-law said it best:

“Every person that I ever met that knew Ken, respected him and loved him. He’s always been there for everybody no matter how big or small their problems were. He is an outstanding person and all who encountered him loved him with all their heart. His grandsons respect and love him to the fullest! He was a great grandfather, father and husband. He had his moments but always said it right! I wish I could’ve grown up with a father like that. He is what every man should want to be.”

Ken will be missed immensely by all his family and friends, and he will always be in our hearts. Ken is proceeded in death by his parents, Bud and Lois Berg, his sister Joylynn Murphy (Dale) brothers-in-law Bobby Beeman, and Tom Hard. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Berg (His Bride), daughter Lisa (Freddie) Herring, son Eric Berg, and grandsons Joshua and Christopher Herring, his sister Patty Beeman (John), sisters-in-law Sharon Hull (Dave), Diane Hard, and many nieces, nephews and friends who were very active in his life whom he loved dearly.
