Kenny's obituary
With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of our father, Kenneth Eugene Barber, who left us on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Born on December 20, 1951, in Mattoon, Illinois, to Richard and Mary Lou (Wente) Barber, Kenny was a light in the lives of everyone who knew him, a man whose laughter was infectious and whose humor brought people together.
Kenny had a gift for finding the funny side of life, even in the most unexpected moments. Whether it was a quick-witted remark, a hilarious story, or an unexpected joke, he could turn even the hardest days into something brighter. His laughter was a reminder that joy is meant to be shared.
Beyond his humor, Kenny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He cherished his family above all else and took pride in his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. He had a passion for all things sports. He played basketball at Mattoon High School and continued to show his love of the sport throughout his life.
Kenny helped to coach Pop Warner Football for the Los Banos Wildcats and contributed his time helping kids. Kenny worked in the newspaper industry, starting at the Journal Gazette in Mattoon, Illinois. He worked at Mastercraft Doors and made his path up to the West Coast Sales Vice President of Lifetime Doors.
He is survived by his wife, Vilma (Galo) Barber; Children: Kendra (Jeremy) Saal, Kenny Jr (Tracy) Barber, Anthony Barber, Elsa (Walter) Montenegro; grandchildren: Nicholas (Sydney) Saal, Andrew (Maddie) Saal, Isabella (Jessica) Saal, Robert (Jojo) Montenegro and Walter (Manpreet) Montenegro; siblings: Sharon (Terry) Holderfield and Ron (Annie) Barber who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Though his laughter no longer fills the room, the joy he brought to others will live on in the stories and smiles he leaves behind. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Shafer.
A virtual celebration of Kenny's life will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM CST (11:00 AM PST). All are welcome to join virtually: https://csp-edu.zoom.us/j/889…
