Kenneth's obituary

Kenneth (Kenny) Carl Allen died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 22, 2018 in Arlington, Texas. He was 83 years old. Kenny was born May 4, 1935 in Garden City, Kansas, where he grew up and lived most of his life. His parents were Carl Victor Allen and Cleo Bailey Allen. He started his lifetime career with Garden City Telegram when at a young age he began delivering newspapers. After graduating from Garden City High School in 1953, he began working inside the newspaper composing room, where he worked for 43 years.
In 1958, Kenny was drafted into the army. He served as a medical specialist in post war Korea. During his career in the US Army, Sergeant Allen received award medals for Good Conduct and Marksman. After serving his country, he returned to Garden City and his job at the Telegram in 1961. He continued in the Army Reserve until he was honorably discharged on February 29, 1964. On April 20, 1963, he married Betty Dunlap. Kenny was a longtime member of the Garden City Community College Broncbuster Athletic Association including serving several years as the Booster Club President. In 1996, Kenny retired from his job at the Garden City Telegram. At that time he began working for Commerce Bank where he worked until December 2006 when he suffered a stroke. He then moved to Arlington, Texas, where he lived out the rest of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ray Allen; and his sisters, Christine Goertz and Ramona Widows.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Betty, of Arlington, Texas; his daughter, Mary, and daughter-in-law, Kim, of Mansfield, Texas; his daughter, Beth, of Fort Worth, Texas; his brothers, Charles “Buddy” Allen, of Garden City, and Walter (Kay) Allen of Ft. Lupton, Colorado; four grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service honoring Kenny Allen will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Clarion Inn in Garden City, Kansas, with Pastor Jeff Mitchell officiating. Floral donations (Wharton’s Flower Shop at (620)-276-6000) can be sent on the day of the service to the Clarion Inn, 1911 E Kansas Ave, Garden City KS 67846.
