Kelley's obituary

KELLEY ANNE LAFFERTY

Kelley Anne Lafferty, beloved sister, daughter, aunt, and friend, died in New York City on April 21, 2020 due to complications from COVID-19. Her spirited laughter, her keen intellect, and her inimitable humor will be deeply missed by those who had the joy of knowing her.

Kelley was born on September 24, 1959 in Beaver Falls, PA. She grew up in Leominster, MA as the oldest daughter of the late Mary Lee (Gallagher) Lafferty and Gerald Lafferty. Her older brother, Michael Lafferty, predeceased her in 1984. She attended Leominster High School before graduating from Regjs College in 1981. After college, she was employed in the insurance industry in Boston and subsequently attended Suffolk Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree. Following a move to Manhattan, Kelley established a private law practice specializing in commercial real estate.

In her leisure time, Kelley was a devoted music aficionado and often spent her weekends discovering new venues and performers. She was also an ardent supporter of the arts and passed many Sunday afternoons enjoying Off-Broadway theater. Kelley’s passion for culture, people, and politics, fueled her love of travel enabling her to explore multiple countries across the globe. She had a strong sense of justice for those less fortunate than her and was a voracious reader with a sharp mind and an intuitive intelligence.

Kelley lived her life with dignity, fortitude, and imagination. Her zest for life and her love of family were always expansive and deeply felt by her sisters, nieces, and nephews. Despite the hardships of the final chapter in her life, she remained optimistic, always greeting those she loved with a big smile and one-of-a-kind stories delivered with her trademark humor.

Kelley is survived by her four loving sisters: Nancy Wellott of Marlborough, MA; Kerry Jordan of Riverside, IL; Shelagh Moskow of Concord, MA; Shannon Simons and her husband Tim Simons of Westport, CT; her eleven adoring nieces and nephews: Madison, Olivia, Cole, Hannah, Michael, Griffin, Samantha, Michaela, Katie, Jack and Trey; and many extended relatives and friends.

A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a future date once it is safe for family and friends to gather. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her name be made to a non-profit organization of your choice that helps those experiencing food insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
