Kaysone's obituary
Mrs. Kaysone Kangnavong (Simma) was born on August 9, 1952 in Naxay Village, Xaysetta District in Vientiane, Laos. She was born to Mr. Khamphanh & Mrs. Khay (Singharaj) Simma. She was the second daughter of five children.
Kaysone graduated college in 1970 and worked as a teacher in Vientiane. She married Viradone Kangnavong in 1974 and had three children - Eddy, Kanett and Noy. She is the grandmother to four grandsons.
They fled Laos with their two children at the time in 1981 in response to the changing political climate of the Lao government. They lived in a refugee camp in Thailand until 1984, when they were accepted into the United States. They lived in Peoria, IL before moving to Springfield, Va where they bought their own home.
While in Virginia Kaysone was involved in many charitable groups and temples that help support the Lao Buddhist community. She was a member of the Royal Lao Veteran Association and the Lao Family Association of Greater Washington. She played a vital role in advancing the mission of these associations to support the Lao community. This included providing support to families to advance the education of Lao children and families, funeral services and support for families navigating health issues. Kaysone was very devout and supported numerous temples, including Watpa Bhuddharam (Partlow, VA), Wat Lao Soukharam (York Springs, PA) and Wat Lao Buddhametta (Upper Marlboro, MD).
Kaysone passed in Inova Alexandria Hospital on July 9, 2025. She leaves behind a loving husband, Viradone, and their children, Eddy, Kanett and Noy as well as four grandchildren and numerous other family and friends. The family deeply thanks everyone for their support and contributions during this difficult time.
