Kay's obituary

Kay Ann Bloss Johnson, 80, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, in Yadkinville, North Carolina. Born on November 18, 1944, in Kinsman, Ohio, she lived a life rooted in love, family and faith.

Kay dedicated most of her life to being a devoted housewife and homemaker. She also helped work on the farm, milking cows and raising chickens, turkeys, and rabbits to fill the family table. Her vegetable gardens were plentiful and she cultivated them with care, and her green thumb extended to the many beautiful houseplants she nurtured indoors.

She shared 60 loving years of marriage with her husband, Edward Johnson Sr., who stood by her side through every season of life. Together they raised a family that brought her joy. She is lovingly remembered by her son Edward Johnson Jr., and daughters Shannon Davenport (Eric) and Kendy Johnson (Grey).

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Eric Davenport Jr. (Ariel) and their children Draco, Marceline, and Saphira;

James Davenport (Crissy) and their sons Allen and Jason;

Elaina Burr and her son Jayce;

Westin Lloyd (Sabrina) and their sons Jasper and Lucian;

Brandi Frost (David) and their children Dallas Frost (Makayla) and their children Chloe and another on the way;  Cheyenne Frost (John) and their children Cyrus and another on the way.

Kay was preceded in death by her beloved parents Kenneth Bloss Sr. and Maxine McMillen Bloss; two cherished daughters, Bobbi Jo Johnson and Brenda Johnson Clark; as well as her brothers Kenneth Bloss Jr. and Joseph Bloss. She also mourned the loss of many other dear family members and friends throughout her life.

A woman of deep faith, Kay was a Jehovah’s Witness for over 20 years. Her spiritual journey led her to worship at Kingdom Halls in Mocksville and Elkin, North Carolina, as well as in Kinsman, Ohio. The fellowship she found among her “brothers and sisters” brought comfort and strength throughout the years. Thanks to this enduring faith and the support of her JW community, she faced the end of life with peace in her heart.

Kay had a zest for simple pleasures that made everyday moments special. She was an avid reader who loved to crochet. Playing cards or board games with her children and grandchildren brought laughter into the home she so lovingly maintained. She adored watching birds flutter outside her window and breathing in the scent of wildflowers on warm days.

Her favorite color was purple—a reflection of the vibrant spirit she carried within—and she had an abiding love for Elvis Presley. His music filled their home often, becoming the soundtrack to countless joyful memories as she danced with her children to his timeless songs.

To know Kay was to be welcomed with open arms—she never met a stranger without offering conversation or one of her signature BIG warm hugs. Her kindness left an impression on everyone she encountered; she truly embodied the gentle grace of a sweet soul.

May Kay’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her—and may the love she gave so freely continue to bloom in those whose lives she touched.
