Katy's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Katy Michel, a boundless spirit and unyielding optimist, who departed this world on September 25, 2024. Born on January 7, 1952, Katy's lifetime spanned over seven decades of love, laughter, and uncountable acts of kindness.

Always the life of the party, Katy's outgoing and gregarious personality charmed all who were lucky enough to cross her path. Never one to mince words, Katy was equally known for being outspoken. She was never shy about voicing her opinions but did so with the utmost thoughtfulness, a trait that drew both respect and admiration from those around her. An unwritten rule for those close to her was, "Don’t touch her food," a testament to her love for life and its simple pleasures.

In life, Katy's winning streak was nothing short of legendary. It seemed she won every raffle and 50/50 she entered, leading many to believe she should have played the lotto. But her true achievements lay in the lives she touched and the laughter she induced.

Katy's legacy is a beacon of authenticity and compassion. She believed in being true to oneself and staying faithful to God. Her guiding principles were kindness, love, and respect towards others. Her life served as a testament to these values, and she leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered and cherished by all those who knew her.

Sadly, Katy's last six and a half years were marked by a dogged battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Displaying her characteristic resilience, she went into remission three times. Unfortunately, her health declined after the illness redeveloped a fourth time, accompanied by Multiple Myeloma. Yet, even in adversity, Katy continued to inspire those around her with her relentless positivity and an unshakeable belief in the power of love and kindness.

Katy’s life and legacy represent a story of courage, love, and unwavering faith, a narrative that will continue to inspire generations to come. The void left by her departure can never quite be filled, but her vibrant presence will forever be cherished in our hearts. Here's to remembering an extraordinary woman whose life was a symphony of courage, love, and unyielding spirit.

Katy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 43 years, William Michel Jr.; her daughters, Meesh Boyle and her husband Andrew, along with their two sons, Grant and Declan; and Pamela Tuitea and her husband Joseph, and their son, Kai. She is also survived by her son, Friedrick Michel. Her family was her greatest joy, and she will be missed dearly by all who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor with the American Cancer Society.
