Kathy's obituary
Kathy passed away at her home in Hinsdale, IL, October 3rd, 2022, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with thyroid cancer.
Kathy was born in Fort Madison, Iowa in 1958 to Wilma and Martin Yurth. She and her 3 older siblings (Bruce, Stanley, and Patty) grew up around Burlington, Iowa. For high school, she attended Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa.
Kathy had a passion for learning, and attended Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, where she completed her bachelors degree in Medical Technologies (1983).
She moved to Chicagoland after college, where she met her husband Charles Mitacek, and had four daughters.
She went on to complete a Masters in Healthcare Administration from University of St. Francis (2000).
Kathy will be remembered by friends and coworkers for being full of energy, very generous, and always willing to have a good talk.
Kathy was a loving and involved mother, and went to great lengths to support her daughters creative and intellectual pursuits. Whether it was science projects, art projects, sewing projects, church or school events, Kathy managed to help, all while working full-time.
Her attention to detail, thoughtfulness, fearlessness, curiosity, and generous spirit will long be remembered.
She is preceded in passing by her mother Wilma Coleman Yurth Krishinger and father Martin Yurth. She is survived by her husband Charles Mitacek, her daughters Patricia (Ovidiu) Halip, Kristiana Mitacek, Kasandra (Joseph) Vacek, Jacqueline Mitacek; and grandchildren Darius, Daniel, Ezra, Olivia, Stella, Charlotte, and Desmond. She is also survived by her siblings Bruce Yurth, Stanley (Mirian) Yurth, and Patricia (Mark) Battenburg, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service has been arranged for November 6, 2022 at 3 pm, located at the Hinsdale Seventh-day Adventist Church at 201 N Oak, in Hinsdale, IL with visitation to follow. Please come and celebrate the life of Kathy Ann (Yurth) Mitacek with all those who loved her and were touched by her life.
All expressions of sympathy including flowers are welcome. Donations to the Mitacek family for end of life care expenses are greatly appreciated and can be made in person or through this site.
Charitable donations can be made to the HSDA Worthy Student fund, which helped support the education of her daughters at Hinsdale Adventist Academy and continues to assist in the education of the next generation of students.
