Kathy's obituary
Kathy was born on June 15, 1951 to the union of Herman and Gwendolyn Jones, the only one of her siblings to be born in her mother's hometown of Richmond, Indiana.
Kathy attended Garfield High School, Class of 68. Kathy was always passionate about helping others and activism. Kathy was one of the founding members of Seattle's Black Panther Party. Kathy spent over 20 years as an advocate in the City of Seattle's Domestic Violence Program, tirelessly working with victims of domestic violence with dignity and compassion.
In November 1969, Kathy's life was forever changed with the arrival of her only son Jayson. Kathy dedicated her life to being a wonderful and supportive mother to Jayson.
Kathy excelled at propping up her siblings, nieces, nephews and any friend or neighbor she met. Supporting them through many passions and difficulties in their lives. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others.
Kathy was a passionate artist of African American crafts and when she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found painting and creating amazing African American art.
Kathy retired from the City of Seattle to become a full time caregiver to her mother Gwendolyn as she battled with Alzheimer's. Her siblings are forever grateful to the love and care she gave our mother until her passing. Knowing they are together again brings us comfort.
Kathy battled with her own health issues in recent years, yet never gave up on her positive attitude and her belief that God would see her through.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Gwendolyn Jones. She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted son Jayson, her beloved Aunt and Uncle Clyde and Dolores Jones, siblings Shirley, Herman (MaryAnn), Clyde, Lynda and bonus brother and sister Fred and Linda Brown. Nephew & nieces, Christopher Miles, Nicole Jones, Ashley Severino (Adan) and Eboni Guiden (Louis), her beloved Brown Boys, Fred Jr. (Tina), Terik and Bryan (Melina), great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends.
As with Kathy's giving nature, Kathy made arrangements for her brain to be donated to the University of Washington for Alzheimer's research due to our family history with this disease. Kathy wish was to be cremated and her ashes shared amongst her beloved family.
Due to Covid restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
