I met Kathy after working with Mike closely for a few months. Back then, the kids were still at home and she juggled her important work at the hospital and all the kids activities. I wondered what kind of woman would keep Mike in line and then I met her.
I thought she would be taller and meaner to manage my stubborn work friend like she did.
Year in and year out, I’d hear all the stories about Kathy, kids, and her mom and knew that Kathy was pure gold.
The irony is that she established a Gold charity and included everyone close to her in the mission and journey.
We went on a couple of long work trips - Mike and Kathy and Ian— and would have the best time. I found Kathy to be fierce— and smart, and passionate. I discovered instantly and first-hand why Mike and the kids loved her so. She’d tell stories of her patients and their families - and always took personal interest in the wellness of the whole unit. There would be big wins, and then the world would gain an angel. This year, the world gained another one.
There is not a finer family in Northeast Oklahoma and I am proudly to have known her.
Kathy’s legacy will live on through Mike, the kids, and their kids. Hopefully the littles will remember how much fun she had helping with their development and that she is watching over all of us in a subtle but firm way.

Kathy started helping as a camp nurse at Camp New Dawn in 2010. She came every year since except 2014 when she was fighting breast cancer. That is a total of 15 years of spending a week together at camp. Kathy and I were both a little OCD about certian things and we helped each other work through some of the organizational challenges at camp. She was always so patient with the campers as she helped them navigate their week at camp. She never minded separating the food on someone's plate because she understood the problems of food touching. She loved going on the hike and she took over the fishing. She reworked the fishing rods and one year even brought live bait to use. My favorite memories are of the two of us sitting on the side of the pool just visiting about camp and life and laughing with the campers. There are too many stories to share, but they are all filled with love and laughter at camp. Kathy will be missed more than I have words.

Kathy LOVED my tiny hand joke as much as I did. Even though Kenna didn’t love it as much. One of my favorite memories.
