KATHRYN's obituary

In Loving Memory of Kathryn Wilhite

May 9, 1943 – February 13th, 2026

Kathryn "Kathy" Wilhite, a woman of unmatched resilience, sharp wit, and deep devotion, passed away in February 2026. A proud "red-headed Cajun," Kathy was known by all as a force of nature—a woman who moved through the world with a rare combination of refined class and grit.

Born on May 9, 1943, Kathy’s drive was evident early on. A gifted clarinetist in her youth, she earned the prestigious honor of performing in the Rose Bowl alongside her classmates. This same discipline carried her through her academic pursuits, where she graduated with honors in accounting. Her professional brilliance led her to a distinguished career as the Head Accountant for Exxon, where she shattered ceilings and set a standard of excellence for years before her retirement.

As a single mother, Kathy’s life was defined by her tireless work ethic and her commitment to her children. After retiring from the corporate world, she relocated to Chama, New Mexico, to care for her parents, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the community. An entrepreneur at heart, she opened a successful Louisiana BBQ restaurant and served as a private chef and office manager for Lobo Taxidermy. Even in a town known for its ruggedness, Kathy stood out; she held a long-standing contract with the busiest restaurant in town solely to prepare her signature soups, a testament to her culinary skill.

Kathy worked seven days a week until the age of 68, often starting her days at 6 a.m. and not resting until 11 p.m. She never complained, even as she stepped in to care for her terminally ill daughter and helped raise her two grandsons. She was the definition of "quiet strength"—until strength needed to be loud. Whether she was walking her poodle at night with her .38 Special or protecting her family from those who meant them harm, Kathy was a woman who could stop anyone in their tracks with a single look.

She was classy, proper, and a formidable businesswoman, but above all, she was a protector. She never wanted to be a "trouble" to anyone, yet she spent her entire life carrying the weight for everyone else.

Kathy is survived by her two grandsons, Nolan Forbes and Brandon Tisdale, who carry forward the lessons of strength and integrity she instilled in them. Her legacy of hard work, Cajun fire, and unconditional love will never be forgotten.
