Kathryn Rolla Sullivan
Kathryn Rolla Sullivan, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023. She lived a very full and joyous life and will be missed by anyone who met her.
Kay, as she was called, was born on October 12, 1928, at St Frances Hospital in Evanston, Illinois to Edward and Gertrude Sloncen. She was raised in Glenview, Illinois along with her seven brothers and sisters, Ruth, Norman, Helen, Hazel, Jerome (Bud) and her twin, Corinne (Corky). She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Health in Glenview and graduated from Niles Township High School in 1946.
Kay spent most of her life in Glenview where she met her husband, Richard Sullivan. They married on January 19, 1952. Together they welcomed five boys into the world, Michael, Patrick (Karen), Thomas, Timothy (Roberta) and Dan. They left Glenview for Arizona and California but returned home and stayed in Glenview to raise their family. She lost her husband in 1989 after 37 years of marriage.
Kay was also devoted to her large extended family. She is survived by her twin sister, Corinne (Corky) and three of her sons, Thomas, Timothy (Roberta) , and Dan; her three grandchildren, Helen Margaret, Nicole (John) and William (Aline) and over 200 nieces and nephews.
Kay loved to bake and crafting. She also devoted herself to helping others starting as a Candy striper during World War II to supporting Timothy’s ministry with clothes and donations. Kay’s superpower was how she made everyone feel so much better just by being in the room with her. She will be missed greatly.
A memorial service to honor Kay’s life and the love she spread wherever she went will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at The Orchard, 1330 N. Douglas Ave, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Service will begin at 12:00 PM.
