Kathy's obituary

Kathryn Ruben Smith (nee Pauly) of Oro Valley, AZ, passed away on August 20, 2021 after a long battle with kidney disease at the age of 86.
Kathy was born on February 11, 1935 to Nicholas J. Pauly, Jr. and Margaret A. Pauly (nee Hicken) in Birmingham, AL. After graduating from Rogers High School in Newport, RI, she went on to study Premed at the University of Illinois at  Urbana-Champaign.

 Before graduation she found her true love, Neal Ruben and they wed in 1961.  They went on to have two sons,  Randall and Sean. Kathy lost Neal and remarried William "Bill" Smith in 1972, and they had one daughter, Shannon, and later divorced. 

 Kathy worked for American Airlines as a Customer Service Reservations Agent for 38 years.
After retiring, Kathy spent her time traveling with her daughter, Shannon, and collecting cookbooks, and cooking gadgets. She was a prolific writer, having written " A Fortune For a Dime" which was copywritten at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. 

Kathy was predeceased by her husband Neal Ruben, sister June Deetsh, brother Charles Pauly, mother Margaret A. Pauly, father Nicholas J. Pauly and grandson, Sean Hayes. 

She is survived by her sons Randall Ruben, Sean Ruben, daughter Shannon Hayes, grand daughters, Renèe Ruben, Kimberly Hayes, and Rhiannon Hayes, grandson Brian Hayes, son-in-law James Hayes, and
niece Nancy Monahan.
