Kathryn's obituary
Kathryn Anna Hilton peacefully passed from this life on September 4, 2024, at the age of 89.
Kathryn was born in 1935 in Monte Vista to Josephine Gray (Weaver) and Lester Gray. The family lived in the Anaheim, California, area when Kathryn was a child. Her father enlisted in the military, was a prisoner of war after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and died in 1941. After that the family returned to Colorado and eventually settled in La Junta, where Kathryn married Kenneth Hilton. They had four children: Karen, Gary, Julie and Sandra. The couple moved to Grand Junction in 1966 and after 21 years of marriage were divorced. Kathryn moved with her three younger children to Durango in 1973. She was restaurant manager at the Iron Horse Inn (formerly Red Barn) and worked at the Strater Hotel for many years as a hostess and bartender.
Kathryn is survived by Karen Hilton and Mac McCallum of Loveland; Gary Hilton of Cripple Creek; Don and Julie Stevens of North Bonneville, Washington; Sandra Hilton of Ignacio; Larissa Gilbert of Loma; Danika Gilbert of Ridgway; Ryan, Erin and Linus Dubas of Durango; and Dylan, Andrea and Ava Jones of Bayfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and an older brother, Raymond.
Called “Kathrynann” by her mother and known as “Nan” to much of her family, Kathryn was an avid football and hockey fan and lived life on her own terms. She enjoyed her historic home in Bayfield and tending her yard and plants. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
