Kathleen's obituary
Kathleen Anne Schooley-Mccaw, affectionately known as Kathy, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, in Essex Junction, Vermont, at the age of 72.
Born on January 12, 1952, to Barbara and Michael Schooley, in Detroit, Michigan. Kathy was a cherished daughter and sister, growing up in a nurturing family environment alongside her brother and sister, Susanne and Jameson.
Kathy met her late husband, Richard, during a mutual friends party at the age of 22. They were inseparable ever since. The two married shortly after, then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she became a devoted mother to her two children, James and Robin, who were the center of her world.
During Kathy’s years as a stay at home mother, she and her children volunteered countless hours to multiple animal shelters and sanctuaries. She had a deep love for animals and was adamant on a good life for them all. Kathy’s favorite sanctuary to frequent and volunteer was the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary.
After her children moved away and her husband passed, Kathy moved to Essex Junction, Vermont to be closer to her sister and spend her better days bird watching.
She is survived by her two children: Robin and James and her eight grandchildren: Chase, Westley, Lyric, Blake, James, Rodney, Allen, and Daniel, who will forever cherish the memories of their grandmother's warmth and generosity.
Known for her gentle spirit and unwavering generosity, Kathy touched the lives of many with her kindness. Her love for birds was well-known, and she found great joy in observing and caring for them, a passion that reflected her nurturing nature and appreciation for the beauty of life. Kathy's life was a testament to the power of her love and compassion. Her family and friends will remember her as a beacon of kindness, whose generous heart and gentle soul left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Kathy, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an enduring legacy of kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will continue to honor her by embodying the values she held dear.
A private family service will be held on December 4th to honor Kathy's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local animal shelter, a cause close to Kathy's heart.
