Kathy's obituary

Kathleen “Kathy” Sue Landry, 74, of Colchester, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, surrounded by love and faith. Born on August 14, 1950, in Littleton, New Hampshire, Kathy lived a life marked by devotion–to her family, her faith, and the countless people she served with quiet grace.

Kathy was the heart and soul of her family. Married to her high school sweetheart, she built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support. She was affectionately known as “Mim,” a name that came to symbolize comfort and care for those closest to her.

Her professional journey began in cosmetology school and blossomed into a fulfilling career. Kathy opened a salon in her home where she welcomed clients not just for haircuts but for connection. She briefly stepped away from her work to raise her children–a role she embraced wholeheartedly–before returning to the profession at Newborn Hair Salon. Eventually, she retired early so she could dedicate herself fully to helping raise her grandchildren, continuing her lifelong pattern of putting others before herself.

Kathy’s life was deeply rooted in service. A woman of steadfast Christian faith, she was an active member of Pemi Valley Church and, later, Colchester Federated Church. Her involvement with “My Brother’s Keeper” reflected her generous spirit; whether sewing for those in need or offering a generous ear over coffee, Kathy lived out the teachings of Christ daily. She laid down her life for those around her–not in grand gestures but in everyday acts of love and sacrifice.

Creative and nurturing by nature, Kathy found joy in sewing projects that often became cherished gifts. Her artistic eye extended to nature as well; she saw beauty in the world around her and shared that perspective freely. Hosting friends was another way she expressed love–her home was always open, always welcoming.

One of Kathy’s greatest joys was the annual vacation to York Beach, Maine with her husband, Laurent. It was more than a getaway; it was a tradition that brought unending laughter and anticipation year after year. These trips were the highlight of her calendar and a reflection of her love for Laurent.

Despite facing terminal cancer later in life, Kathy never let on to how difficult things truly were. She bore suffering with quiet strength and dignity, always placing others’ needs above her own.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Laurent, their children Christopher Landry (partner Allyson Bellemore), Stephanie Barrett (husband Todd Barrett), grandchildren Kendall Fordham (husband Collin Fordham), Laney Barrett, and great-grandson Isaac Fordham. Kathy was predeceased by her parents Robert and Alice Hiltz, sister Judith Benton, and sister Susan Hiltz. Kathy is also survived by her sister Roberta Lowden and her brother Robert Hiltz as well as several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery located on Old Airport Road in Lincoln, NH on Thursday, June 12th  at 10 am followed by a Celebration of Life at the Woodstock Inn.  Both are open to friends and family.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Kathy leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness, compassion, and selfless love. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her and continue to inspire lives rooted in grace and service.
