Kathleen's obituary
Kathleen (Kathy) Ann Humphrey passed away on July 22, 2021 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was truly one of a kind: she was known for her fierce love and loyalty to family and friends, as well as her boundless energy, impeccable fashion sense, and willingness to put others before her.
Kathy was born to Ann and James (Jack) Miller on May 9, 1954 and very proudly hailed from Cleveland, Ohio, where she grew up with her brother, Marc. She survived 13 years of Catholic school and went on to earn a nursing degree at Kent State University. She worked in emergency and labor & delivery rooms in Cleveland, Dallas, Minneapolis, and East Lansing, and made lasting friends wherever she went.
Over this time, she had her children Lauren and Danny, whom she showered with love and an insane number of extracurricular activities, from ballet to ice skating, baseball to piano. Ever the warrior, she found time to complete law school in between chauffeuring children and whipping up nightly gourmet meals. She graduated from Santa Clara University Law School and passed the brutal California Bar exam on the first try. She was a hell of an attorney and passionate about protecting medical professionals. She stunned her opposing counsels with medical savvy and incredible sartorial choices.
Over the years, she passionately cheered (and coached from afar) the Warriors basketball team. By her account, many of the star players were courting her - Iggy in particular - but she remained primarily devoted to her feline boys: Moses, Rabbit, and Scooter. Kathy never left the SF SPCA without taking home another rescue.
Kathy’s memory and spirit will live on in her children, Lauren & Danny, brother Marc and sister-in-law Janet, dear friend Vince, numerous nephews and nieces, and countless friends. And no one who met her will forget her range of musical taste, from Kanye to Debussy, Prince to the Killers, nor losing to her in her infamous radio game.
A celebration of her life will be held with family and friends on Saturday, August 7 in San Francisco, California. All donations should be made to the SF SPCA.
