Kathleen's obituary

Kathleen Victoria Ancho was born September 8th, 1968 in Grass Valley California to Robert and Judy Swartz. She moved to Battle Mountain Nevada in 1972 and began kindergarten. Kathleen graduated from Battle Mountain High School in 1987. In June of 1987 she went to work for the Lander County Sheriff’s Office. After 30 years of service, she retired in December of 2017. She owned and operated the KVA Drug Testing company while continuing to serve her community in various public service and advocacy roles such as serving the Saint John Bosco Catholic Church, Lander County Committee Against Domestic Violence, Chamber of Commerce, Emergency Response Commission, Hospital Board, and TV Board. She was elected and served Lander County as the 5th District Commissioner from 2018 until her retirement in 2024. She was known for always standing up for what she believed in and being a voice for those that felt they had none.

Kathleen met Thomas Ancho in 1987 and the two married in 1990. The two had one daughter, Maria Kathleen Ancho, born May 23, 1992. Maria was the love of Kathy’s life and best friend. Kathleen completed her bucket list by traveling all over the world to places like Ireland, Scotland, Haiti, and Spain. She was fulfilled most by building deep and loving friendships with all those she came across.

Kathleen took care of those around her in all ways possible. She even wrote this obituary to make it easier for her family (we obviously added to it because she was known for being a bit to humble).

Kathy wanted to thank her family and friends who loved and took care of her in her time of need. You knew you were loved if you lived in her world. Her passion for what was right, compassion for those in need, and her laugh truly made this world a better place.

There will be a service for Kathleen at the St John Bosco Catholic Church at 9am on 30 November 2024.
