Katherine's obituary
Our Kathy is no longer with us ,her parents and we are ,of course heartbroken but we remember that she lived her life with enthusiasm and took an interest in almost everything she encountered in her 52 years.
She spent her days doing the many things which interested her.
Kathy tried lots of crafts and hobbies- coloring books, diamond painting, knitting and later spinning yarn as well as cooking.
She was a fan of numerous singers - Rockapella, New Kids on the Block, Tears for Fears, Wierd Al Yankovic.
She loved watching anime and attended Comicon. For almost 20 years she cared for her cat Gracie.
She participated in activities at her church, and met with a knitting group at the Covington library.
Kathy enjoyed trips to Mt Rainier and camping when she was younger. She visited the Puyallup Fair almost every year. She stayed in contact with many of her friends on Facebook.
She went to school at Napavine Christian School , Onalaska elementary, Marrion Elementary in Vancouver, Washington and later at Wy East Junior High and then in 1993 graduated from Mountain View Highschool in Vancouver, Washington.
We don’t remember how many surgeries she endured but what we do remember was her courage and cheerfulness. As long as she is remembered she will be with us still. Please write your memories of our daughter so we can all remember her.
Mom
Katherine Anne Decker (Kathy) was born 24 Oct 1973 and died 9 February 2026 age 52. Kathy was born in Vicenza, Italy while her father was stationed there in the US Army. She was born with Spina Bifida and could never walk. She was quickly evacuated to Frankfurt and then to Walter Reed Hospital for spinal closure and for a hydrocephalus shunt. Then her father received an Army Compassionate Transfer to Ft Lewis. Kathy grew up in Steilacoom, Onalaska, Vancouver and Covington.
She had numerous medical emergencies and had been in many hospitals and received excellent medical care and operations throughout her life. Her parents are particularly grateful for all the medical care she received and the home assistance she received for 20 years from Total Living Concept in Kent, WA, which allowed her to have her own apartment and semi-independence. Also her electric wheelchair gave her the ability to have social contacts which gave her much happiness. Despite all of her medical problems, Kathy always maintained a cheerful, optimistic attitude and was friendly toward everyone she met. She was an inspiration to her parents and to all who knew her.
